1These terms
These terms are the agreement between you and Orelle (“Orelle”, “we”, “us”), based in Toronto, Ontario. By creating an account or using Orelle, you accept them. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use Orelle.
2Who can use Orelle
You must be 18 or older. Orelle is offered in Canada, outside Quebec. Orelle is for your own personal money management, not for commercial use.
3What Orelle is, and what it isn't
Orelle is a budgeting and education tool. It reads bank or credit card statements you give it, or numbers you enter yourself, and shows you what your own money did.
Orelle is not a financial adviser. Nothing in it is financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice. We don’t recommend investments, funds, stocks, accounts or tax strategies, and Bijou never tells you what you should do with your money.
Orelle never connects to your bank. We don’t ask for banking credentials, and we never move money.
Orelle never cancels anything on your behalf. Where we show you how to cancel something, you do that yourself with the merchant.
Projections, including any “could become” figure, are illustrations rather than predictions. They assume a 7% average annual return. Real returns vary, can be negative, and your result will be different.
Reading statements is automatic, and it can be wrong. Amounts, dates, merchant names and categories can all be misread. Please check anything that matters before you act on it.
4Your account
You sign in with a link sent to your email address. There is no password, which means your email account is the key to your Orelle account. Keep it secure: anyone who can read your email can reach your Orelle account.
An account is for one person, and shouldn’t be shared.
If you lose access to your email address, write to hello@orelle.io. If you have paid for Plus we may be able to verify you through your payment record, but we can’t guarantee that an account can be recovered.
5Your statements and your data
Your data is yours. Statement files are read and are not stored on our servers. We keep the transactions we take from them — date, merchant, description and amount — with account and card numbers masked. The privacy policy explains all of this in full and forms part of these terms.
Only upload statements for accounts that belong to you.
You can export your data or delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your information from our systems within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days, apart from records we are required by law to keep, such as payment history.
6Orelle Plus
A free account includes one money check-up a month, the full budget, your goals, and three Ask Bijou questions a month, at no cost and with no card.
Orelle Plus costs $5.99 CAD a month, $49 CAD a year, or $149 CAD once for lifetime access. Prices are in Canadian dollars and don’t include applicable taxes. Payments are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store your full card number.
Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until you cancel. We email you seven days before each yearly renewal. You can cancel at any time from Settings, and Plus continues until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
We don’t refund unused time on a monthly or yearly plan, except where the law requires it.
If we change our prices, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before the change applies to you. A price change never affects lifetime access you’ve already bought.
7Lifetime access
“Lifetime” means for as long as we operate Orelle. It is not a promise to run Orelle forever, and it isn’t tied to anyone’s lifetime.
Lifetime access belongs to one account and can’t be transferred. If you change your mind within 30 days of buying it, write to us and we’ll refund you in full.
8If Orelle ever closes
If we decide to stop running Orelle, we’ll email everyone with an account at least 30 days before it closes, and you’ll be able to export everything you’ve put in. Anyone who bought lifetime access in the 12 months before that announcement will be refunded.
9Fair use
Please don’t upload statements that aren’t yours, try to reach anyone else’s data, attempt to break, overload or probe the service, use automated tools to scrape it or upload in bulk, resell or redistribute Orelle, or use it to break the law.
We may suspend or close an account that does any of these, or that creates multiple accounts to get around the limits of the free plan.
10The services Orelle relies on
Orelle runs on services provided by others: Supabase for the database and sign-in, Vercel for hosting, Stripe for payments, and Anthropic for reading statements and writing Ask Bijou’s answers. The privacy policy sets out what each of them receives. We choose them carefully, but we don’t control them, and an outage at any of them can affect Orelle.
11Availability
We work to keep Orelle running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, pause or remove features. If we remove something significant that Plus was paid for, we’ll tell you and, where it’s fair, offer a refund.
12Our responsibility, and its limits
Orelle is provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t responsible for decisions you make using Orelle, for figures misread from a statement, or for indirect or consequential losses.
Where we are found liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 CAD if you haven’t paid us anything.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under Canadian consumer protection law, or excludes liability that can’t be excluded by law.
13Ending your account
You can close your account at any time from Settings. We may close or suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we’ll tell you why where we’re able to. If we close your account for a reason other than something you did, we’ll refund any unused paid time.
14Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we’ll email you and show a notice in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. Smaller changes take effect when they’re posted. The date at the top tells you when these terms last changed.
15Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario, except where consumer protection law allows you to bring a claim where you live.
